Storage and Handling Instructions for Deloro Powders
Storage of Deloro powders
Do not open factory sealed bottles until ready to use. It is generally not necessary to store unopened factory sealed bottles in a special environment, however every effort should be made to keep all powder containers out of an area where condensation of moisture can occur or where water is present.
Keep unused powder in tightly sealed bottles between uses.
Opened powder containers should NOT be stored at a temperature within 5° F (3° C) of the dew point. If storage temperatures are within 5° F of the dew point consider the following if powder clumping or other reaction with moisture is experienced:
- Place the powder bottles (loosely sealed) in a warming oven set at a temperature of no greater than 120° F (48° C), or
- Place the powder bottles (loosely sealed) in a humidity controlled storage cabinet, or
- Pour the powder into stainless steel pans and place into a warming oven or humidity controlled storage cabinet, or
- Place a desiccant bag into each powder bottle and tightly re-close the bottles. Note: be sure to remove the desiccant bag before using the powder.
If powder clumping due to moisture contamination has occurred then:
- Dry the powder before using one of the conditions stated in item 3 above, and
- Pass the dried powder through a coarse mesh screen (80 mesh or larger) to break up any lumps before using.
Always store powder in such a manner as to minimize vibration. Vibration can cause segregation of the large and fine particles in the powder size distribution to occur. If particle size segregation has occurred blend the powder using a V-cone blender or equivalent before use.
Pre-Weld-Treatment of Metall Powders
Store in dry environment, preferably at room temperature. Previous to using our Hard-Surfacing- Powders we recommend the following procedure:
- Open the bottle, remove the cap and put the bottle
- for min. 4 hours into a drying furnace at 80 ⁰C.
- Shake the bottle before use.
Expiration Dates for Deloro Powders
An expiration date is considered to be the date when the product’s chemical make-up or other quality characteristics have deteriorated to the point that they are no longer representative of the original certificate of analysis issued for that product.
The product line of Deloro Wear Solutions high alloy powder materials is considered to have no set shelf life or expiration date. The powders contain no organic binders that may deteriorate and are considered to be a chemically inert material.
The original certificate of analysis shall remain valid provided that the powder has been stored properly and the powder has not been spilled, contaminated, left open or otherwise altered.
