Forward-looking: Deloro digitalises numerous processes

If there's one thing that doesn't suit us Delorians at all, it's the attitude ‘We can keep doing it this way, we've always done it this way.’ On the contrary, we are open to new things, to change and therefore also to the topic of digitalisation. We are currently working in almost every area of the company and examining how we can make processes better, more digital and therefore more efficient. This often leaves no stone unturned. It goes without saying that this is not always easy for our employees. We are all the more proud that they are going along with all the changes, remaining open, actively contributing and, of course, benefiting in the end.

A lot has already been done in many areas with regard to digitalisation. For example, we already have digital tool cabinets and a measuring arm for 3D measurements in our production. We are also currently introducing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to record personnel times, operating and machine data. This system records all relevant data and indicates, among other things, how long an employee worked on which machine, how many good parts were produced and whether there were any faults. ‘It’s important for us to make it clear to employees that it’s not about monitoring them, but simply about making real data available digitally. We draw fundamental knowledge for important company decisions from this,’ reports Ronja Zientara, who is responsible for digitalisation at Deloro. After all, it is clear that decisions are only as good as the basis on which they are made. A good database is therefore extremely important.

Digitalisation – but not without our employees!

Delorians are actively involved in the digitalisation process. This is because the digitalisation process has another goal: to make work easier for our employees. Digitisation is intended to automate work steps and provide Delorians with systemic support to save them work, time and frustration – for example when searching for data stored in analogue format. They will be fully involved from the start of the project and asked about the process flow in their respective work areas. ‘After all, nobody knows better what to look out for and how processes can be optimised than the people who work in this area every day,’ says Zientara.

And even after the introduction of a new system, such as the new MES, employees give their feedback. Their suggestions are expressly welcome and are implemented where possible. ‘Of course that doesn’t always work. Nevertheless, it is important to us that every employee is heard and taken seriously. If something cannot be implemented, we communicate openly why this is the case,’ continues Zientara.

Innovative: Delorians develop digitalisation ideas

In addition, every Delorian has the opportunity to contribute their own digitalisation ideas as part of #innofriday. Great innovations have already been created in the internal think tank – including on the topic of digitalisation. For example, OCR software for electronic invoice posting has been introduced on the initiative of an employee. There are also many other exciting projects, almost all of which are related to the topic of digitalisation.

So there will certainly be many more digitisation projects at Deloro in the future. After all, the employees have already proven many times that they are open to it. ‘There is a Chinese proverb that fits us well: ‘When the wind of change blows, some build walls and others build windmills’. We Delorians definitely don’t want to isolate ourselves, but instead want to participate in the change and utilise the wind as best we can,’ concludes Ronja Zientara.
